Jackson Five
Gary, Indiana is the birth place of Michael Joseph Jackson. August 29, 1958 was his birthday. Michael’s parents were Katherine and Joseph Jackson. Michael had five brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy and three sisters, Reba, LaToya, and Janet. As a child Michael was raised in the discipline of the Jehovah Witness doctrine.Michael performed for his kindergarten class as a five year old. The older Jackson boys had a band called the Jackson Brothers. When Michael joined his brothers he and Marlon were backup singers, and dancers. They played the tambourine and congas. Before signing with Motown the Jackson Brothers released songs under the label, ‘Steeltown’. Michael was viewed as a child prodigy at a very young age. He was able to mimic and singer in pitch and tone.
In 1968 The Jackson Five was born with their signing at Motown. Several Motown singers heard Browsergames the young Jackson’s perform, including Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, and others. Barry Gordy finally was able to hear the boys and he signed them immediately. The Jackson Five stayed with Motown until 1975. They later signed with Epic Records as the Jackson’s. There are several memories from the Jackson Five era, including the cartoon program that was fashioned after the singers. Many can usually recall Michael dancing with Cher and Diana Ross from a TV recording.
Michael broke with the Jackson Five and started a single career. He only reunited with his brothers once and that was for the Motown big celebration. March 18, 1983 Michael performed for Motown live on TV. That performance introduced Michael’s brilliance. Michael sang Billie Jean and wore the single glove. It was at this performance that the fedora was used as a prop for the first time. Michael also moon walked on stage during that historical TV performance.
